Fortnite Batman Zero Point issue 1 is out, and we like it? | PC Gamer - sturgillroure1979

The Batman-Fortnite crossing comedian is away, and I think I like IT?

Fortnite's recently Batman crossover comic is out today, the low gear of a six-make out storyline. As far atomic number 3 marketing stunts go, it's not very surprising just a couple tidbits wealthy person Pine Tree State somewhat curious where the narrative will go, and if IT will add anything meaningful to Fortnite's lore. I've been tough on Fortnite's story, which feels like it's been treading weewe for years at once, and Batman's canonical interpolation might just give in this aimless narrative some real stake, at any rate emotionally.

Succeeding in the reality-tearing footsteps of mollify 5 and flavour 6, issue 1 of Batman/Fortnite: Zero drags the Caped Crusader into the Fortnite universe. A magnitude rift opens risen above the skies of Gotham, and Batman follows Harley Quinn into the battle royale island. Unfortunately, it goes active too as his confab to the Court of Owls, and he promptly gets attacked by a wealth of Fortnite characters.

Thus far, it's a pretty familiar setup to the in-mettlesome mirthful that debuted Thor for season 4's Wonder crossover, with plenty of teases to come, I'm certainly. What interests Maine is one minor implication: As Batman is being ambushed by one of Fortnite's more feral characters, he discovers he's been turned into a damp, incapable to utter a single world. When some sign-language language fails to communicate any nuance, he similarly discovers that he has lost any retentivity of who he is.

What follows is a series of fistfights with other Fortnite characters, alongside Catwoman, who Batman immediately feels a crisp connection to.

Though we sawing machine this a little bit with Thor's comic, his mind similarly wiped, I do authentically love the implications of what entering the Fortnite battle royale loop does to someone. It makes all those marketing tie-INS a trifle tragic. Batman has lost all sense of who he is, aside from his natural instincts. Kratos, Lara Croft, Original Chief, Black Panther, and all the others—they belik suffer no idea of the worlds and loved ones they'atomic number 75 departure behind.

That wind gives  weight to what Jonesy and the dimension-hopping Foundation are trying to tweak throughout season 6. It's not simply about defeating a great evil OR saving the universe (although there's certainly enough of that), it's about rescuing everyone stuck getting kicked, punched, shot, and exploded over and over again with very little conception of wherefore they're there or why they're forced to die. Information technology also means that Jonsey thinks  the end justifies the means , that his truly messed up strategy of dragging heroes into the struggle royale will eventually remainder the rhythm. The IP in Fortnite stands for intellectual prison. Considering Jonesy formerly worked for close to sort of group that wants the iteration to continue, this is doubly darkness.

Batman's opening issue culminates in him and Catwoman defeating every single matchless of their opponents, only to understand that the every-consuming storm is still closing in some them. Batman's inner monologue turns to death—factual death—as he and Selena Kyle deal for each one other longingly, unmindful that the loop is doomed to repeat.

For a game that's heavily marketed to kids, this acknowledgment that Fortnite carries some burthen of mortality is a peculiar one. We've exclusive ever so seen death expressed in a typically cartoonish way: A lineament exploding offscreen, or being converted into a banana smoothie, non literally passing away permanently. Epical is distinctly invested with in marketing Fortnite to kids as well as puppyish adults who can more competently manag with the concept of decease, and if this is the kind-hearted of emotional depth they want to run in, I'm each for information technology.

Then again, maybe I'm vindicatory thinking a fiddling too hard about IT all. This is, after all, another deputize whatsoever Epic is cooking up for their next big seasonal or marketing event. We've got five issues unexhausted in the Batman storyline, deuce of which are due stunned in May, so betting odds are we'll get some many answers in due time.

Whatever happens, I barely hope Large finally understands that it's fine for a story to have some stakes, even if it's past comic hold standards. We're never that worried about the fate of Batman or opposite heroes. We have it away they'll inevitably return in some fashion. The question is whether or not they or Fortnite's global will Be changed in some way that lasts. I need more people to truly tending about Fortnite's story. That would lonesome be a good thing. But IT'll take impulse from something beyond space Opera set pieces and Tertiary period lore mopes soon.

Fortnite/Batman: Zero Gunpoint issue 1 is available now on most Major services, same Kindle or ComiXology. It'll cost you $4.99 an proceeds, just your money besides gets you a write in code for discharged in-game cosmetic items. Issue 1's code will bugger off you a new "Rebirth Harley Quinn" skin based on her outfit seen in the opening pages.
